The UNITES (UNdergraduates Improving TEamwork Skills) Team was excited to host a workshop on teamwork at the 2024 Capstone Design Conference last week! We shared our Module 2 work on Effective Communication. The workshop showcased materials to expose students to different working styles and different expectations based on prior experiences. Thank you to all who participated, and we look forward to continuing to share our work at the upcoming 2024 ASEE Conference!
Dr. Shadi Balawi brings home the “Best Faculty Presentation” award for the UNITES team at the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Gulf-Southwest (GSW) Conference held at West Texas A&M University on March 10-12, 2024.
Dr. Balawi presented a paper on behalf of the UNITES team entitled “Embedding Teamwork Skills in Mechanical Engineering Curriculum”. This paper and presentation focused on the implementation of our three teamwork skills modules with minimal change to the existing curriculum. The three modules are implemented as one- to two-hour workshops within existing courses with team projects at the Sophomore, Junior, and Senior levels. These workshops highlight expectations and deliverables, team communication, and conflict management, respectively.
